Helsing Secures Record-Breaking $1.8 Billion in Funding
PARIS – In a landmark event for Europe’s defense technology sector, Germany’s Helsing has successfully secured $1.8 billion in funding, marking the largest investment round ever for a defense-tech startup on the continent. This financial boost has elevated the company’s valuation to an impressive $18 billion, contributing to the ongoing surge of significant investment rounds across Europe’s defense industry.
The Munich-based firm announced that it achieved this milestone during its Series E funding round, where the demand from investors notably surpassed the shares offered. Post-funding, Helsing remains largely owned by European stakeholders, according to the company’s statement released on Monday.
The substantial funding boost to Helsing has increased its valuation from the previously reported €12 billion in June 2025. This follows closely on the heels of another German defense-tech company, Quantum Systems, which earlier this month raised $1.2 billion at an $8 billion valuation. The defense technology sector is experiencing rapid growth in venture capital investment, driven by increasing military budgets worldwide and especially in Europe.
“This latest investment will significantly advance Helsing’s mission to develop and deploy cutting-edge AI platforms to enhance the defense capabilities of its expanding network of partner nations,” the company stated.
The strong investor interest is a reflection of the growing confidence in AI-driven and software-defined defense technologies. Despite being a relatively new player in the arena, founded in 2021, Helsing’s current valuation ranks it among the most valuable defense firms in Europe.
Helsing’s product lineup includes the HX-2 strike drone, the Altra AI-enabled software for battlefield operations, and proposed projects like the CA-1 autonomous fighter jet. The company collaborates with major industry players such as Rheinmetall, Kongsberg, and Saab to integrate its AI solutions.
Other Significant Funding Rounds in Europe
This year has seen several other major funding initiatives across Europe. For instance, Kraken Technology in the United Kingdom, which specializes in autonomous vessels, raised $175 million in a Series B round this month, bringing its valuation to $1 billion. A ‘mega round’ in the investment industry typically refers to fundraising exceeding $100 million.
Additionally, in Germany, Stark, a manufacturer of unmanned systems, secured €500 million ($570 million) in June, reaching a valuation of €3.2 billion. In Finland, ICEYE, known for its radar satellites used by militaries across Europe, raised €450 million in a Series F round last month. Meanwhile, in France, the defense-tech startup Harmattan AI garnered $200 million in January in a Series B round led by Dassault Aviation, achieving a valuation of €1.4 billion and becoming the country’s first defense unicorn.
Helsing reported that both new and existing investors participated in its recent funding round, including notable names like Lightspeed Venture Partners and General Catalyst. Among its existing investors are Prima Materia, Accel, and Greenoaks.
The company also confirmed that its board composition remains unchanged, with Daniel Ek and Tom Enders continuing as co-chairmen. Other board members include Jeannette zu Fürstenberg, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Gen. Denis Mercier, and co-founders Gundberg Scherf, Niklas Köhler, and Torsten Reil.
