A Sci-Fi Thriller Centered on Survival and Hope

In this gripping science fiction thriller, we follow Abby, portrayed by Ella Balinska, as she embarks on a desperate quest to find a cure for her sister’s life-threatening cancer. Driven by a deep belief in the potential for a cure, Abby’s journey takes her through both literal and metaphorical wilderness. The majority of the film sees her navigating her way back from a helicopter crash in the secluded wilderness of Georgia. Here, survival seems nearly impossible, and her only form of company is the voice of Rob Delaney, cast as a pilot who has also found himself stranded in the vast expanse.

Rob Delaney, widely recognized for his comedic brilliance in hits like “Catastrophe,” offers a stellar performance using only his voice. However, the spotlight firmly belongs to Balinska, who commands the screen with a presence reminiscent of Sigourney Weaver’s iconic role in “Alien.” Balinska masterfully balances strength with vulnerability, portraying a character who is both formidable yet palpably human. This standout performance should definitely put her on the radar for casting directors looking for their next star.

Underutilization of Strong Performances

Unfortunately, the talents of Balinska and Delaney are somewhat underutilized within a film that lacks the narrative sharpness equal to their performances. The plot is rich with intriguing ideas and numerous unexpected twists. However, the frequent plot twists risk diverting attention away from the character development, leading audiences to focus more on the narrative mechanics rather than the emotional and physical journey of the characters. Despite the strong individual elements, the film struggles to coalesce into a fully compelling whole.
