Postponement of Grand Theft Auto VI Release to May 2026
Rockstar Games has announced that the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI will be pushed back to May 26, 2026. Originally set to be launched this fall, the absence of a concrete release date was starting to create unease within the gaming community.
In a succinct announcement on their official website, Rockstar Games expressed their apologies, stating, “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The enthusiasm and anticipation for a new Grand Theft Auto entry has been incredibly inspiring for our team. We are grateful for your continued support and patience as we put the finishing touches on the game.”

“Our primary aim with each game we release is to surpass your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no different. We hope you understand that we need this additional time to ensure the game meets the high standards of quality that you expect and deserve,” the company added.
It has been over a decade since Grand Theft Auto V was released, which has sold more than 210 million copies, positioning it as one of the most successful video games ever, alongside icons like Minecraft and Tetris. It’s worth noting that GTA V itself experienced multiple delays before finally launching in September 2013.
Details about GTA VI have been scarce since a teaser was released in December 2023. The game is set to return to the fictional Vice City, a mirrored version of Miami, and its surrounding state of Leonida. The narrative will likely center around Lucia, a seasoned criminal, as she and her male accomplice attempt a daring heist.
No further details regarding the delay of GTA VI have been disclosed. However, Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, is scheduled to present its financial results on May 15. This event is expected to prompt a flurry of inquiries from journalists and investors alike.
