Escalating Tensions: Iran’s President Declares ‘Full-Fledged War’
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dramatically stated that Iran is in a “full-fledged war with America, Israel, and Europe,” intensifying global tensions a few months following airstrikes by the Trump administration on several of Iran’s nuclear sites.
In a statement posted on the website of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian accused the United States and its allies of attempting to destabilize the Iranian government.
“They do not wish for our nation to become self-sufficient and stable,” Pezeshkian expressed emphatically.
Further, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran’s military capabilities are significantly enhanced and more robust, preparing them to counter any new provocations from Western nations effectively.
“Should they decide to engage militarily, they will be met with a far more forceful retaliation,” he cautioned.
These remarks were made in anticipation of a scheduled meeting in Florida between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where discussions are expected to focus on Iran’s missile capabilities.
Previously, in June, Iran endured a 12-day conflict with Israel, which concluded with a series of deep strikes by American bombers on Iran’s nuclear infrastructures. Following the conflict, President Trump announced a “complete and total” ceasefire. The Pentagon has stated that these strikes set back Iran’s nuclear development by as much as two years, a claim disputed by Tehran.
Now, Pezeshkian is intensifying his verbal assaults against what he perceives as oppressive actions by Washington and its partners.
“We are being encircled in every way possible; they hamper our ability to function, imposing restrictions and creating hurdles in every facet of our lives—from our economy to our culture, politics, and security, all while societal expectations are increasing,” Pezeshkian detailed on Saturday. “They obstruct our trade and economic exchanges while simultaneously, societal demands grow. We are compelled to mobilize all our resources to address these challenges,” he added.
The United States has maintained sanctions on Iran for decades, particularly targeting its oil exports, which are vital to the nation’s economy. These sanctions are part of a strategy to exert “maximum pressure” on Iran to draw it back to the negotiating table for a new nuclear deal.
These sanctions have led to severe economic difficulties within Iran, including high inflation rates and growing unemployment.
Amid these economic pressures, Iran’s currency, the rial, has hit an all-time low against the U.S. dollar, triggering protests across Tehran and other Iranian cities over the recent weekend.
