Scott McTominay’s overhead kick to feature on limited-edition £20 banknote

The Bank of Scotland Releases Commemorative £20 Note

The Bank of Scotland has recently introduced a special edition £20 banknote, which features a design inspired by Scott McTominay’s memorable overhead kick goal. This release is in celebration of Scotland’s participation in the World Cup, and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to acquire one of the 50 available notes out of a total of 100 in the upcoming weeks.

Celebrating a Historic Goal

The note’s design ingeniously combines traditional elements of currency design with representations inspired by McTominay’s pivotal goal during the World Cup qualifier against Denmark. This goal contributed significantly to Scotland securing a spot at their first men’s World Cup since 1998, following a thrilling 4-2 victory at Hampden Park in Glasgow, where McTominay’s overhead kick marked the first goal of the match.

Reflecting on the impact of his goal, McTominay expressed, “Such moments are cherished by every fan, and it’s truly an honor to see my goal immortalized on a Scottish banknote. Collaborating with the Bank of Scotland on this project, especially knowing that it aids Crisis in their fight against homelessness, is a source of immense pride for me.”

A Unique Collaboration

Emma Noble, who leads the Scottish executive committee at the Bank of Scotland, commented on the project: “Scott’s spectacular goal is already celebrated as one of our nation’s finest. It has been a pleasure to collaborate with him to capture this moment in such a distinctive manner.”

Fans of the sport and collectors alike can try their luck at owning one of these exclusive notes either through an auction or a prize draw, both methods supporting Crisis Scotland in their mission to address homelessness.
